Taipei Dangdai
Overview
Andrea Festa is pleased to present, on the occasion of Taipei Dangdai 2024, The Sky is of all Eyes, a two-person exhibition featuring works by Silvia Giordani (1992, Vicenza, Italy) and Taedong Lee (1989, Seoul, South Korea).
Landscape lies at the heart of their artistic inquiry, becoming a subject of exploration. Through their distinct yet complementary artistic approaches and chosen mediums, this exhibition invites viewers on a captivating journey through landscapes of emotion and memory. Silvia Giordani, born in Vicenza in 1992 and based in Venice, draws inspiration for her painted environments from various sources: geological cross-sections, historical landscape illustrations, satellite images of other planets, and digital settings. Her paintings navigate a delicate balance between opposing forces, giving rise to scenes characterized by suspended atmospheres and enigmatic coordinates ripe for exploration.Taedong Lee, born in 1989 in Seoul, South Korea, is a landscape artist who expresses emotional experiences through vivid colors and expressive marks. He earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Camberwell College of Arts in London in 2020 and a B.A. in Painting from Gachon University College of Arts, Korea, in 2016. For Taedong Lee, landscape is a recurring theme in his artistic exploration, and his creative process involves capturing the essence and truth of the places he paints. Lee works with motifs of memory and feelings associated with the landscape, whether visited, seen in a photograph, or read about in a book. He captures the image through a combination of impasto and subtle layers of paint, transforming classic nature scenes into nostalgic compositions where forests, rivers, and sky begin to merge into a single impressionistic whole.
The Sky is of all Eyes promises to be a stimulating exploration of the intersection between art, emotion, and memory. The title is drawn from a famous poem by Italian poet Gianni Rodari, which delicately addresses the theme of equality and freedom that transcends the walls built by people. This evocative title invites us to consider landscape not merely as a mere collection of physical elements but as a reflection of shared hopes and dreams that unite humanity beyond barriers built by people themselves. Just as the landscape brings its various components together in a harmonious picture, poetry can serve as an emotional bridge between people, overcoming differences and creating authentic connections. Through the poet's words, we can discover common ground on which to share experiences and feelings, paving the way for greater understanding and solidarity.
