Sebastian Hidalgo Mexico, b. 1985
Sebastián Hidalgo (1985, Mexico) lives and works in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico. Is a contemporary visual artist whose work revolves around drawing and painting. Through common mediums and grounds such as oil paint, charcoal, canvas, paper, wood. He manages to develop his own eclectic and mutable aesthetics, oscillating between sensory experience and conceptual content. For this exhibition, Sebastián presents a series of works that gravitate around a delicate and surreal atmosphere. His practice has been anchored in a constant exploration that has allowed him to generate a polyvalent body of work while searching for a sensation of expansion and unity through ideas of psychedelia, dream memory and contemplative states of mind.
“My practice is an open and mutable process, animated by intuition. I look for starting points that serve as support and as a pretext; the artwork is a result, aimed to function as a vehicle of connection through matter. It is about change and materialization, in order to find a beginning, to open possibilities. I am interested in delving into what motivates human logic; our attempt to find coherence in the face of the phenomena presented to us, as well as our effort to understand and obtain definitive judgments and conclusions through our mind’s faculty to establish relationships between ideas and concepts”.
