Based on the entrance to Édouard Manet’s former Paris studio, this painting explores thresholds: physical, historical, emotional. Skats encounters Manet not through grand narrative but through the intimacy of place — a doorway, a city corner, a personal pilgrimage.
Like Manet’s late watercolors and small still lifes, the painting privileges modest scale and atmospheric sensitivity. It becomes a quiet homage: to looking, to legacy, to the rooms where images begin.
