Lisa Ivory (b. 1966) is a British painter based in London. She studied at Saint Martins School of Art, earning a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Painting) in 1988. Ivory’s practice delves into the concept of otherness, weaving together myth, folklore, and classical narrative archetypes. Her work often features the Wildman, a recurring protagonist who interacts with female figures under the watchful shadow of Death, creating allegories of power, desire, and mortality.
Set within landscapes that oscillate between rural, urban, and wasteland, Ivory’s paintings inhabit a shadowland populated by anomalies, chimeras, and spectres. Her compositions echo the tone of archaic folklore, while presenting paradoxical discourses — the feral and the tamed, the worshipped and the abandoned, the empowered and the subjugated.
Ivory has presented recent solo exhibitions at Nino Mier Gallery (Brussels), Pamela Salisbury Gallery (New York), Charlie Smith London, CZA (Milan), and MePaintsMe (online). She has also exhibited with Yusto/Giner (Madrid), Veta by Fer Frances (Madrid), Fabian Lang Gallery (Zurich), and at international fairs including FOG Design + Art (San Francisco), The Armory Show (New York), and Art Genève (Geneva).
Her work is held in the permanent collections of the University of the Arts, London and St George’s Medical School Library, London, as well as numerous private collections worldwide.
