Through color, texture, and form, my work investigates the historical and generational consequences of subjugation while building connections between the external world and the internal experience of the African diaspora.
Ryan Cosbert
Ryan Cosbert is an African-American conceptual artist whose practice spans painting and sculpture, with a focus on abstract forms and political-historical narratives. Drawing on her Haitian and Guyanese heritage, Cosbert creates multilayered works that explore the legacy of oppression and the generational impact on Black communities. Using color fields, grids, and layered textures, her vibrant abstract compositions evoke both control and dynamism, balancing geometric structure with expressive depth. Cosbert has presented solo exhibitions at Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, New York (2025), Luce Gallery, Turin (2022–2023), and Undercurrent, Brooklyn (2021), and her work has been included in international group exhibitions across Europe and the United States. She is a Barnes Foundation Scholarship Grantee and holds a BFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts, New York (2021). Cosbert’s works are held in private collections internationally.
