My work explores the ephemeral moments that shape our inner lives — the quiet gestures, the private rituals, the gaze turned inward. I paint these moments to invite viewers to embrace vulnerability not as weakness, but as a profound and necessary part of our shared humanity.
Bre Andy
Bre Andy (b. 1994) is a figurative oil painter based in Brooklyn, New York. Her practice engages themes of intimacy, sexuality, domesticity, and self-observation, using portraiture and still life as frameworks to examine the complexity of vulnerability and the quiet strength found in moments of private reflection. Often depicting solitary figures in intimate settings—undressing, reclining, or gazing into mirrors—Andy’s tightly cropped compositions focus on delicate bodily details that heighten their voyeuristic tension. This tension is softened by her cohesive tonal palettes and precise, gentle brushwork, which imbue the work with warmth and tenderness.
Andy’s work has been the subject of a solo presentation at NADA Miami with Cierra Britton Gallery (2024) and has been included in major group exhibitions at EXPO Chicago with Allouche Gallery (2025), Hannah Traore Gallery, New York (2025), Chilli Art Projects, London (2025), V1 Salon, Copenhagen (2024), and Andrea Festa Fine Art, Rome (2024), among others. She has been an artist-in-residence at Kates-Ferri Projects, New York (2021).
Her work has been featured in leading international publications including The Art Newspaper, Artsy, Lampoon Magazine, and i-D Korea, which have recognized her contribution to expanding figurative painting to encompass the multiplicity of Black and Brown women’s lived experiences. Through her painterly practice, Andy seeks to create spaces where viewers may encounter intimacy as a radical affirmation of selfhood—unfiltered, unapologetic, and deeply human.
