The painting A Car, is one of the variations on car theme I’ve been working on during the spring. The image is a film still from Roberts Bresson’s movie The Devil, Probably. I like working on a single image or idea, but make different versions on it. I might change the size of the painting, or alter the crop of the image. Usually I try to simplify the painting by erasing elements; like a person, or things in the background. A way of generalizing and extracting the image from its context. At the same time I’m interested in using images that already has this filter of culture, like this car from the movie. As a way of interacting with a collective memory or archive.
