Miriam Auteri Italy, b. 1999
The image originates from the close observation of a vegetal structure, later reconfigured and removed from its original context. Cropping reduces the subject to a system of volumes and folds, gradually stripping form of its descriptive function. Through light and tonal variation, the painting acquires an ambiguous quality: what belongs to the botanical world may also be perceived as organic matter or bodily surface, leaving the viewer suspended between recognition and abstraction.
