In Flop Calls, the ordered grid of the New York Times serves as a formal counterpoint to the almost theatrical fluidity of bodies in motion. The work investigates the "crack" in the masculine code of conduct through athletic movement, represented here in a sequence of falls and heightened physical contacts. Dispenza transforms the athletic action into an inquiry into the construction of masculinity: a field of research where "contact"—both physical and emotional—stops being a deviation and becomes the primary language through which a man communicates his existence.
