For the occasion, eight drawings of Sinead Breslin, SunJing, and Sebastián Hidalgo are on display. The exhibition “Works on Paper” runs from the 22nd of March, 2025, until the 25th of April, 2025 at Andrea Festa Fine Art, Lungotevere degli Altoviti 1, Rome, Italy; as well as online on Artsy until the 20th of May, 2025. This special occasion brings together the works of three artists whose practices uniquely engage with the paper medium. While Breslin is widely known for her oil paintings on canvas, this exhibition provides a rare opportunity to see her interpretations on paper. SunJing fluidly navigates between paper and canvas, making her presence in this exhibition a natural extension of her aesthetic world.
Meanwhile, Hidalgo, who transitions seamlessly between paper, canvas, and linen, offers a distinctive exploration of his intricate, meditative compositions on paper. Sinead Breslin is recognized for her unique approach to abstraction, creating compositions that explore universal emotions and perceptions. Her works are included in such collections as the Alex Katz Foundation, the San Antonio Museum of Art, Hudson Valley Maco, Palazzo Monti, Villa Gaeta, X Museum Shanghai, and Xiao Museum Suzhou. Breslin describes her practice as an exploration of contemplative spaces that function both as mirrors and windows. She often depicts singular figures suspended in obscure settings, with flattened perspectives and exaggerated colors that evoke the surreal nature of REM sleep. Her work blends portraiture with metaphysical inquiry, creating tension, intensity, and relief through the materiality of oil painting.
SunJing draws inspiration from personal experiences, literature, film, and music, weaving an ambiguous atmosphere that captures youth, desire, and human complexity. While often exploring character-environment relationships, her work goes beyond figuration, frequently amplifying women's narratives that are historically overlooked. Her notable exhibitions include"Xiao Sui Yue" at September Art, Guangzhou (2020). SunJing has participated in major fairs such as ART021 (2024) and is included in the Corridor Foundation Collection.
Sebastián Hidalgo, based in Cholula, Mexico, crafts intricate mandalas and meditative compositions inspired by Mexico’s rich artistic traditions. He lives and works in Cholula, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. His studio, bathed in natural light, is filled with books, historical images, and handwritten notes attached to the walls. The city's landscape, deeply intertwined with its myths and culture, is marked by the active Popocatépetl volcano and the Great Pyramid of Cholula, structures that infuse his practice with geological and historical energy. His work has been exhibited at Fortnight Institute and is part of the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection.
Through their diverse yet interconnected practices, the selected works capture intimate and fragile
narratives, evoking moments of tranquility and unity and revealing the pursuit of beauty in the void.
