Still life
Sinéad Breslin
Andrea Festa Fine Art is pleased to present Still Life, Sinéad Breslin's first solo exhibition in Italy, with a critical text by Edoardo Monti. The exhibition will include a new series of work created between the Tuscan countryside, precisely Villa Gaeta and the Jewish quarter in Rome.
“I have known Sinéad Breslin since April 2018, when she wrote to me asking to participate in Palazzo Monti in Brescia, a newborn residence. Her works impressed me tremendously. Seven months passed, Bréslin arrived in Brescia in November of the same year and created extremely powerful works, which I still remember clearly.
The human figure represents the seminal point of Bréslin's work, the basis on which the artist creates two parallel stories but with different origins and destinations: on one hand her life and memory generate images of family members, acquaintances and friends; on the other hand, symbolic figures, who play the role of formal elements within a compositional logic.
It is clear the allusions to Magical Realism, however with some results that divert to the dark and a sense of the unreal, where elements dear to the Irish traction are explored: magic, fairy tales, allegories. However, there is a hint of Primitivism, thanks to the instinctive brushstrokes such as the absence of planning before each work. The colors are exaggerated by the sometimes expressionist stroke and the friction between abstraction and figurative is palpable, generating flattened perspectives.Breslin plays with life, observes it and represents it: beautiful, painful, emotional."
