In Untitled I [holding], Dispenza explores the inherent fragility of close physical contact, where the muscular tension of the athletic gesture is transfigured into an embrace of profound vulnerability. The loose, transparent gouache brushstrokes seem to melt the armor of "masculine composure," revealing the skin and the underlying sentiment. Here, the act of holding one another becomes a ritual of mutual recognition: a suspension of social norms where strength lies not in resistance, but in the capacity to let oneself be moved by another’s emotion.
